Contact! And a few hilarious fails....

Today is 3 weeks since my first real set of matches, and I promised to let you know if I actually received any response from emails or smiles sent. Saturday I spent all day in Muskogee with my family, then most of the night packing for Scout camp, so I took a loooonnnnggg nap on Sunday and didn't even check eHarmony until Sunday night before bed.

I had not one, but two emails waiting for me: one from the musician in Fayetteville that I mentioned in the last post. It was very friendly, so I sent a friendly, chatty email back, and received a reply yesterday.  But I also had an email from JS in Oklahoma City, and he took an entirely different approach.

RA: you and I are in a room with lots of people. As I look across the room and our eyes meet, what will you do or say to capture and hold my attention - And it had not better be something about apples.

Alright, ladies, I'm in the mood for some audience participation. Hit me up in the comments and tell me how you would have answered that. I answered, I kept it short and flirty (for me, so that's probably mild for some of you), and haven't heard from him yet. I may email him again today and ask what he would do to capture and hold my attention.

And the matches keep coming. I've sent emails to a teacher in West Hartford, CT (I just thought he was adorable, in an East Coast Jewish intellectual kind of way), a professor in Florida (who railed against "teaching to the test":) ), a doctor in Alaska who may be just a little too outdoorsy (but hey, we have great outdoors in AR), and a restaurant owner from SD who travels all over. And I'm not finished - I have to write emails to a man in WY who mentioned a book I just re-read (and have been telling you about, Stacy), a veterinarian in RI who loves pugs, maybe a hispanic writer in TX. I may be almost caught up, because the matches today and yesterday were a little thin (on information, pictures, or even honesty). Which leads me to.......

This week's version of eHarmony fails! And have I got some entertaining stories for you today. Starting off with the smaller snickers, there was Bob, who posed for his cover photo with Austin Power's favorite pose (pinkie to the mouth). Really? Then there was Gordon, who listed his occupation as "fun engineer?" Does he get benefits with that, I wonder? And I even got matched to THOR! Yes, Thor, in Maine, whose most personable line was that he was passionate about "Being all I can be."

Steve is a businessman/actor from Newport Beach, California. He didn't post a picture. Tell me, have you ever heard of an actor who doesn't have a head shot ready to go at the drop of a hat? But that wasn't the most interesting. He did a decent job of filling out most of his profile, general stuff, until you get to almost the very end. Some additional information Steve wants you to know: I am looking for a fit, Catholic, woman born in 1961, 65, or 69 that is a Pisces or Scorpio. Yep, he's from California, alright. And I don't qualify, on either count. "Next!"

David from El Paso did include pictures, 3 of them, in fact. His cover photo he took using his webcam, then replaced the background (which shows up in another picture as a fairly blah home interior) to make it look as if he is standing in front of a mountain waterfall. How do I know he isn't actually standing there? Because he left his chair-back in the photo. :)

Meet Troy. Here is the beginning of his profile: One thing that Troy is most passionate about:
1st and foremost my Lord, then my wife. I was married to my wife of 32 years, with absolute and total devotion. One day she told me that she had fell in love with another and left. It has taken me years to recover but now I desire love again....  Idle question - if Troy was married for 32 years, and he's 52 now, has he really spent years getting over his marriage (thereby having married at maybe age 14?) or has it been more like weeks? Let's see if we find an answer in his second question. The most influential person in Troy's life: My Lord and believe it or not, my past wife (32 years together), children, and family. I've got news for Troy. He's still married.

I was on the phone with Stacy yesterday and decided to take a look at my daily matches (I'd been at training all day). I complained to her about Curtis from Tucson, whose only picture was from 198X?

I don't usually post photos of the actual matches, but this is what he had, with the caption "Once upon a time." I thought that wasn't really fair - I have some great pictures from college, too. Then I woke up this morning and when I checked my matches, I saw this:

Do you see that?!?! It's Curtis's long, lost twin brother, Kevin, from Lehi, UT!! What are the chances? And I am a match for both of them!  (well, I reported them both to eHarmony today as possibly fraudulent. But I had to save the photos for y'all).

Lastly, there is Scott from Auburn, WA. He is a military officer - a younger man! - who put this in his profile: Scott typically spends his leisure time: dancing, garden, musicals  Wha!?! Musicals? But wait, he just replaced his cover photo. Hello, blue eyes! You know, I've got Evita and Phantom on video. I can do musicals. I've gotta go now, ladies. I'm feeling very patriotic suddenly. Email awaits.

Until next time, I'll just leave you with a little photo of what I would not be surprised to find in the ol' inbox next week. Anything can happen!
