New Year, New Focus

I haven't been here in a while, but thought I'd pick it up again. Mostly because I've been reading some good blogs lately, and want to join the conversation.

Most of them are about reading. Over the Christmas break, I couldn't seem to get enough reading. I'm still powering through a couple or three novels a week. And I saw someone who stacked up their monthly reading and took a picture. I want to do that! Today was the 31st, so I need to take my picture today or tomorrow.

I am reading for my classes, to find books that will engage my students, but somehow I am reading just as much for me. I'm enjoying these books - not reading them like homework. I want to read the next best thing. And I enjoy talking to my kids about these books as a reader, not as a teacher (although I guess there will always be a little of that).

Other things developing in this change-driven life - I signed up for Twitter. I did it just to follow hints to an online Scavenger Hunt for one of the books I recently read. And I don't know if I want it to work in any way as a social network for me and friends. But at the moment I am following authors, some of them who just released debut novels in the last year. They are still so accessible, and I like the idea of joining, even marginally, a community of them.

I'm thinking more about writing. Thinking but not doing anything. Have to see how that goes.

Past bedtime. Maybe I'll update this again before next year.

Maybe.
